Sitting Up With The Dead… The intoxicating, narcotic aroma of ylang ylang, magnolia, and jasmine with hyacinth and white lilies wrapped in the barest whisper of wintergreen in a base of vanilla, soft patchouli, and white musk. This is a rich, sweet, and rather spicy/narcotic floral. Hauntingly beautiful!

Have you ever wondered how the practice of sending flowers to a funeral came to be?

Long before funeral parlors and embalming practices became commonplace, it was the norm for friends or family to take care of bathing and dressing the bodies of loved ones who'd passed in preparation for burial. After the body had been washed and dressed it would be laid out on a large table or wooden board for viewing. If the weather was warm, a veil might be placed over the body to protect it from insects… and not only were insects a concern, but rodents were as well. Thus, the practice of “sitting up with the dead”, also referred to as a “wake”, came about out of the necessity of sitting watch over the body.

Since embalming was not the norm, it didn’t take all that long before the body of the deceased would begin to emit, ahem, a certain undesirable aroma, as you might imagine.  This is where the flowers come in... the aroma from a profusion of flowers around the deceased helped mask the odor, so all those flowers did more than just look lovely.

And that, darling, is how the practice of sending flowers to a funeral came to be.

Blended in a base of fractionated coconut oil and presented to you in your choice of 5ml, 8ml, or 15ml rectangular roll-on glass bottle, it will arrive suitably packaged for gifting in an embossed gift box tied with ribbon. Perfect for gifting someone else or simply for treating yourself to something fun and unique.
